An each-way bet = 2 bets:
One for the horse to win
One for the horse to place (finish in top positions – e.g. 2nd, 3rd)
Example: A £1 each-way = £2 total stake (£1 win + £1 place)
Winning the race: You win both parts.
Only placing: You win just the place part.
Odds for placing are usually 1/4 or 1/5 of the win odds.
If a horse withdraws after you place your bet, bookmakers apply a Rule 4 deduction to your winnings. The amount depends on the odds of the withdrawn horse:

2/11 – 2/17 | 85p |
1/4 – 1/5 | 80p |
3/10 – 2/7 | 75p |
2/5 – 1/3 | 70p |
8/15 – 4/9 | 65p |
8/13 – 4/7 | 60p |

You don't win full odds – your winnings are split.
Example Calculation:
Divide your stake by number of dead-heated horses.
Multiply the result by your odds.
